AZ Central asked West Valley cities what was learned during recession

Mayor Bob Barrett

"The economic downturn affirmed our position (on) the importance (of) sticking with sound fiscal policies during the boom years so that we do not add to our ongoing overhead, which enabled us to weather the Great Recession and come out in a relatively strong position. We are situated very well for future growth. Peoria is a desirable place for builders and today is a leading housing submarket in the Phoenix MSA. The economic downturn provided the space to enable staff to retool existing processes and identify new opportunities (such as over-the-counter permitting, self-certification) to streamline the development process and retain our position as a good place to do business."
