92,155 Stronger!

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

The 41st International Convention is underway and 4,000 AFSCME members are gathered in Chicago to set the course for our union’s future. This year, as we face an especially challenging moment in our history, the theme is Bold, Brave, Determined.

Today we announced the incredible results of that boldness and bravery. In January, we set out to organize 50,000 new AFSCME members before the Convention. As of today, we surpassed that goal and signed up 92,155 new members.

This feat is due to the hard work and perseverance of our Volunteer Member Organizers. They hit the pavement and reached out to their coworkers, taking the time to explain that in times like these we are stronger together.

Throughout the week, delegates will consider key policy resolutions and constitutional amendments, and we will highlight the different pillars of our strength, from external organizing to building political power to forging strong bonds with allies in our communities.

Even if you can’t be here with us in the Windy City, you can follow the action online by visiting the convention website. We’re updating it every day with photos, news and videos so that you can see how your sisters and brothers are making AFSCME history this week.

Make sure to check out the video highlights for each day’s speakers. This year’s lineup is full of inspiring leaders, from the members who won battles at the local level to allies who are fighting for working people on the national stage.

We will continue to post new updates throughout the week. We’re Bold, Brave, Determined and ready to take action.

In solidarity,
